Mannheim Executive Master of Accounting and Taxation

For decades, the University of Mannheim has been considered the leading German institution in educating future accountants and tax consultants. This tradition will carry on with the new "Executive Master of Accounting and Taxation" offered by Mannheim Business School.

Two tracks are offered:

  • Accounting track
  • Taxation track

  • Accounting Track

    The Accounting track of the "Executive Master of Accounting and Taxation" is directed at young professionals who want to prepare themselves as accountants in the best way possible. The curriculum and content will adhere to the provisions of § 8a of the German regulations for the preparation for the accounting practice and examination ('Wirtschaftsprüferordnung zur Vorbereitung auf Wirtschaftsprüferpraxis und -examen')

    The "Executive Masters of Accounting and Taxation" was conceptualized in close cooperation with leading accounting firms and accordingly adjusted to their particular requirements. The contents of the program are oriented consistently towards the preparation of the participants as accountants. The priorities are placed on the areas of tax law, business law and applied business administration and economics.

    The particular characteristic of this program is the extensive orientation towards practical accounting and consulting. The 28-month course of study begins each year in May with a three-month block of instruction which recurs in the subsequent years of the program.

    Furthermore, in October, November and December of the first two years, the study plan is made up of one-week course units. There are no courses between January and March and in August and September. After graduation, preparatory courses are offered in preparation for the accountants' examination (Wirtschaftsprüferexamen).

    Taxation Track

    The Taxation Track of the "Executive Masters of Accounting and Taxation" was conceptualized in close cooperation with world's leading tax consulting firms and accordingly adjusted to their particular requirements. The contents of the program are oriented consistently towards preparing the participants for a job as tax advisors.

    In the course of the first year, the priorities are placed on the areas of tax law, business law and applied business administration and economics. A particular characteristic of this program is the extensive orientation towards business taxation and international tax planning during the second year.

    The 24-month program of study begins each year in July. Courses follow the pattern of a part-time program and take place every week between Thursday and Saturday. Furthermore, in October and December each year, special one-week course units are held together with the participants of the Accounting Track. There are no courses in August. After graduation preparatory courses are offered in preparation for the tax advisors' examination (Steuerberaterexamen).

    Admission Requirements

    • First degree - A primary requirement for admission is a post-secondary degree such as a bachelor or Diplomstudium, or a comparable degree.
    • Entrance examinations - An additional requirement is the successful completion of the statutory entrance examination which is made up of two written exams and an oral exam. This way the candidate should provide evidence of a broad basic education in business and economics, especially in the field of applied business administration.
    • Employer's pledge of support - The Executive Master of Accounting & Taxation is a major time investment for which the employer’s support will be required. Therefore, applicants are asked to provide a statement from their employer consenting to their participation in this program.
    • For the accounting track only: Evidence of one year professional experience as defined in Sec. 9 WPO - Applicants for the accounting track need to prove that they have professional experience as defined in Sec. 9 WPO, i.e. at least half of the total year's work experience required must have been spent working in accountancy. Please send written confirmation of this from your employer as part of your application.
